Lowest Sodium Pizza: Every Major Chain Ranked per Slice
Lowest sodium pizza ranked per slice at Domino's, Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, Little Caesars, Marco's, and Blaze — thin-crust veggie winners from 420 mg, plus 2-slice budgets.

Pizza is inherently salty. Dough, cheese, tomato sauce, and cured meat are four of the densest sodium sources in fast food, and a standard slice stacks all of them. A single meat-heavy slice at a national chain runs 800–870 mg — and nobody eats one slice.
The good news: the spread between the best and worst slice at the same chain is huge. A thin-crust veggie slice comes in at 420–520 mg across the big chains, less than half of a stuffed-crust or meat-lovers build. Crust and toppings matter more than the logo on the box.
The lowest-sodium slice at every major chain, all from official nutrition data:
| Lowest slice | Chain | Sodium (per slice) | Calories |
|---|---|---|---|
| Thin ‘N Crispy Veggie Lover’s, medium | Pizza Hut | 420 mg | 180 |
| Thin Crust Veggie, large | Domino’s | 450 mg | 200 |
| Thin ‘N Crispy Cheese, medium | Pizza Hut | 470 mg | 200 |
| Thin Crust Cheese, large | Domino’s | 470 mg | 210 |
| Hot-N-Ready Cheese, large | Little Caesars | 480 mg | 250 |
| Thin Crust Cheese | Marco’s Pizza | 480 mg | 200 |
| Thin Crust Pepperoni | Little Caesars | 520 mg | 210 |
| Thin Crust Cheese | Papa Johns | 520 mg | 210 |
| Veggie Pizza, 11” half | Blaze Pizza | 920 mg | 400 |
Numbers are US menu figures verified against official chain nutrition pages and calculators — recipes change, so confirm in the chain’s own tool when it matters. Blaze is listed per half-pizza because that’s how the chain portions its 11” pies; each chain name links to our full sodium-ranked guide for that restaurant.

Per slice vs per pie: the math that matters
Chains publish per-slice numbers, and a slice is 1/8 of a large pizza. That’s the trap: the number on the nutrition page is never the number you eat.
- One thin-crust veggie slice at Pizza Hut is 420 mg. Half the pie (4 slices) is about 1,680 mg — more than an entire 1,500 mg day.
- One Domino’s thin cheese slice is 470 mg. Two slices: roughly 940 mg. Four: about 1,880 mg.
- One Meat Lover’s slice at Pizza Hut is 870 mg. Two slices: about 1,740 mg before any breadstick or dip.
Blaze makes the point explicit by portioning in halves: a half 11” cheese pizza is 980 mg and a half Veggie is 920 mg — the whole pie would double that. Treat every per-slice number as a unit you multiply, not a serving you eat.
Chain by chain: where the lowest slices are
Pizza Hut — the per-slice winner. Thin ‘N Crispy Veggie Lover’s (420 mg) is the lowest slice we track at any national chain, and even the Thin ‘N Crispy Pepperoni stays at 550 mg. The cliff is crust: the same medium cheese slice is 470 mg thin, 510 mg hand tossed, and 780 mg stuffed crust. Toppings do the rest of the damage — Pepperoni Lover’s is 800 mg a slice and Meat Lover’s is 870 mg.
Domino’s — thin crust or bust. Thin Crust Veggie (450 mg) and Thin Crust Cheese (470 mg) are strong; thin pepperoni is 560 mg. But the same cheese slice on hand-tossed crust jumps to 620 mg, handmade pan to 680 mg, and a Brooklyn pepperoni slice to 790 mg. Domino’s Cal-O-Meter lets you price out crust and topping combos before you order — worth two minutes.
Little Caesars — plain is fine, loaded is not. The Hot-N-Ready Cheese slice (480 mg) is one of the cheapest low-sodium dinners anywhere. Thin Crust Pepperoni is 520 mg. But the Hot-N-Ready Classic Pepperoni hits 620 mg and the ExtraMostBestest Pepperoni reaches 720 mg a slice.
Marco’s Pizza — thin crust only. Thin crust cheese is 480 mg, but the large original-crust cheese slice is 620 mg and pepperoni is 740 mg.
Papa Johns — the highest floor. The thin crust cheese slice is 520 mg — the priciest “best slice” among the slice chains — and the standard large original-crust cheese slice is 680 mg, with pepperoni at 780 mg. The famous Special Garlic Sauce cup adds another 220 mg.
Blaze Pizza — fast-fired, fast math. Build-your-own 11” cheese is 980 mg per half, the Veggie half is 920 mg, and the Meat Eater half is 1,480 mg. The side salad with no dressing (180 mg) is the one genuinely light add-on here.
Two-slice budgets against a 1,500 or 2,300 mg day
Assume two slices plus a drink — a realistic pizza dinner — and check it against the 1,500 vs 2,300 mg daily budgets:
- Best case: two Pizza Hut Thin ‘N Crispy Veggie slices (about 840 mg) + water (0 mg) = ~840 mg. Fits a 1,500 mg day with room to spare.
- Typical smart order: two Domino’s thin cheese slices (about 940 mg) + Diet Coke (40 mg) = ~980 mg. Fine on a 2,300 mg day, tight on 1,500 mg.
- Common default: two hand-tossed pepperoni slices (Pizza Hut, about 1,240 mg) + a Pepsi (45 mg) = ~1,285 mg. Nearly a strict day gone.
- The blowout: two Meat Lover’s slices (about 1,740 mg) + a breadstick (250 mg) + marinara dip (290 mg) = ~2,280 mg — a full 2,300 mg day in one sitting.
Ordering rules for a lower-sodium pizza night
- Thin crust, always. It’s worth 140–160 mg per slice versus original/hand-tossed crust at Domino’s, Marco’s, and Papa Johns — and 310 mg versus Pizza Hut’s stuffed crust.
- Veggie beats cheese beats pepperoni beats “Lover’s.” At Pizza Hut the same thin medium slice runs 420 mg veggie, 470 mg cheese, 550 mg pepperoni. Meat-lovers builds add another 300+ mg on top of that.
- Set the slice count before you open the box. Two thin slices plus a side is a plan; “I’ll stop when I’m full” on a large pie is how 450 mg becomes 1,800 mg.
- Dips are a second side dish. Garlic dipping cups and marinara cups run 180–360 mg each — Domino’s garlic cup is 180 mg, Little Caesars’ Crazy Sauce is 280 mg, and the Caesar Dip is 360 mg. Skip them or split one.
- Pick sides like garlic knots (120 mg at Papa Johns), Crazy Bread (160 mg a stick), or a single Pizza Hut breadstick (250 mg) — not the family-size bread baskets.
- Water or diet soda. Water is 0 mg everywhere; diet sodas are about 40 mg. A regular 20 oz Coke adds 55 mg and 240 calories for nothing.
- Wings and sandwiches are not “on the side.” Domino’s plain traditional wings are 1,960 mg for 8 pieces, and the Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich is 2,010 mg — each a full day by itself.
Pizza traps to skip
- Stuffed crust anything — Pizza Hut’s stuffed-crust cheese slice is 780 mg before toppings.
- Meat Lover’s / Meat Eater builds — 870 mg a slice at Pizza Hut; 1,480 mg per half at Blaze.
- Pepperoni Lover’s (800 mg/slice) and ExtraMostBestest Pepperoni (720 mg/slice) — double pepperoni is double trouble.
- Domino’s traditional wings, 8-pc plain — 1,960 mg. Plain does not mean low.
- The “add a sandwich” deal — Domino’s Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich is 2,010 mg, the highest single item in this brief.
FAQ
Which pizza chain has the lowest sodium slice? Pizza Hut’s Thin ‘N Crispy Veggie Lover’s medium slice at 420 mg, followed by Domino’s Thin Crust Veggie at 450 mg. Among cheese-only slices, Pizza Hut and Domino’s thin crusts tie at 470 mg, with Little Caesars and Marco’s close behind at 480 mg.
Is thin crust pizza lower in sodium? Yes, at every chain we track. At Pizza Hut, a medium cheese slice is 470 mg thin, 510 mg hand tossed, and 780 mg stuffed crust. At Domino’s, thin cheese is 470 mg versus 620 mg hand tossed and 680 mg pan. Crust choice is the single biggest lever you control.
Is veggie pizza lower in sodium than pepperoni? Yes. Veggie Lover’s thin is 420 mg a slice versus 550 mg for thin pepperoni at Pizza Hut, and Domino’s thin veggie is 450 mg versus 560 mg for thin pepperoni. Vegetables add almost no sodium; cured meat adds a lot.
How many slices of pizza can I eat on a 1,500 mg sodium day? Two thin-crust veggie or cheese slices lands around 840–960 mg — workable if the rest of the day is plain. Three slices of anything clears 1,200 mg, and two meat-lovers slices alone is about 1,740 mg, over the whole budget.
Is Blaze Pizza low in sodium? Not especially. Blaze portions by the half 11” pizza: Veggie is 920 mg, build-your-own cheese is 980 mg, and Meat Eater is 1,480 mg per half. That’s comparable to two thin-crust slices elsewhere — fine if a half is your whole meal, not if you eat the whole pie.
What is the lowest-sodium side at a pizza chain? Papa Johns Garlic Knots at 120 mg each and Little Caesars Crazy Bread at 160 mg a stick are the lightest. Pizza Hut Cinnamon Sticks (180 mg for 2) work as dessert. Dipping sauces are the hidden cost — 180 to 360 mg per cup — so skip them or share one.

All figures are US-market values from official chain nutrition calculators and tools — including Domino’s Cal-O-Meter, Pizza Hut’s nutrition tools, and littlecaesars.com — compiled and dated on each linked restaurant guide. Slice values are per 1/8 of a large (or 1/8 medium where noted); Blaze values are per half of an 11” pizza. Menus and recipes change — the chain’s own calculator for your location is the final word.
